Letters from the Benefice

A Fabulous Cheese and Wine Fundraiser at The Freeth!

Friday night’s (10th November) fundraiser in aid of the maintenance and preservation of St Swithin's, our beautiful village church is on course to raise an astonishing £4,243.80! What a wonderful amount and what a wonderful evening. Many thanks to Louisa and Charles for hosting the evening and welcoming us all to their beautiful home. Huge thanks to our auctioneer Clive Farahar who did a splendid job with good humour and aplomb, dealing with diverse lots including giant chocolate buttons, a Robbie Williams bomber jacket and portrait of Nelson. Many, many thanks to everyone who so kindly donated truly stunning raffle prizes and auction lots. Libby’s beautiful Christmas cake drew gasps of admiration. From the hard working bar tenders to raffle ticket sellers, Diane and Pat deserve a very special mention , everyone who brought delicious nibbles for us all to share, Isabel, Amelia and Daisy who did a great job with their marshmallow and spaghetti competition, this was a tremendous effort by everyone involved.

A massive THANK YOU from the St Swithins fundraisers and the Parochial Church Council to everyone from Compton Bassett and beyond who bought tickets, made donations, supported the raffle, bid extravagantly in the auction, drank wine and ate all those delicious nibbles!

Wishing you all a joyful Christmas and a happy New Year.
